Volunteering at Kenwood

Thank you for your interest in volunteering at Kenwood Academy.  We welcome volunteers in the following areas:

 

·       Opportunities that DO NOT REQUIRE a volunteer clearance

o    Becoming a Local School Council (LSC) member

» Must be elected

·       Opportunities that REQUIRE a Volunteer Clearance at Level 2 or Level 1 because they involve contact with students include:

o    Office workers

o    Volunteer tutor

o    Chaperoning a field trip

o    Working with a non-athletic school club

 

The following is the process for becoming a school volunteer:

 

·       If you are visiting or working with students for a short, one-time event (KenTalk, Guest Speaker, Guest Coach, etc.) you will need Level 2 Clearance

                              » Bring photo ID to clerk in the main office to make a copy to have on file

 

·       If volunteering on multiple occasions or for extended time (i.e field trips, tutoring, sport booster) you will need Level 1

                              » Complete a background check 

                              » Complete TB test 

»  UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES CAN THE CANDIDATE VOLUNTEER THEIR SERVICES UNTIL THEY ARE CLEARED BY SAFETY AND SECURITY.

 

 

The following are ways in which volunteering is NOT PERMITTED at Kenwood Academy:

 

·       Security guard, hall monitor, or in any capacity where a conflict or disciplinary concern with a student may arise

·       Coach on any school team 

o    If a parent wishes to be on the coaching staff, then they should apply for a paid position with the team

o    The number of paid coaches varies by the sport and is determined by CPS Sports Administration

o    Head coaches are interviewed and hired by the administration and Athletic Director

o    Assistant coaches are selected by the head coaches and approved by the administration
